Richmond United Red is excited to announce a leadership transition for its Futsal program as the club prepares for the 2026-27 season. After leading the program since its launch in 2018, Ross Mackenzie will pass the reins to current RU Red U13-U19 Girls Director, Mo Idris.

Since establishing the RU Red Futsal program eight years ago, Mackenzie has been instrumental in growing it into one of the premier futsal programs in the region. What began as a new initiative has expanded to more than 40 teams and over 350 players, providing countless athletes with opportunities to develop their technical skills and compete during the winter months.

Taking over the program is Mo Idris, who brings extensive futsal knowledge and experience through his work with FutsalRVA. In addition to serving as RU Red’s U13-U19 Girls Director, Idris has been heavily involved in the local futsal community and is well-positioned to continue the program’s growth and success.

“I am excited for the opportunity to lead our futsal program and build on the strong foundation Ross has established,” said Idris. “Futsal plays an important role in player development, and I look forward to continuing to provide our players with a fun, competitive environment to improve their technical ability.”

As part of the program’s continued development, Idris will work closely with RU Orange Director of Futsal, Morgan Singer, to build on the successful inaugural year of the Richmond United U9-U12 Futsal League. Meanwhile, U13-U19 teams will continue competing in the FutsalRVA Winter League, ensuring players have access to high-quality competition throughout the winter season.

Richmond United Red thanks Ross Mackenzie for his outstanding leadership and dedication over the past eight years and looks forward to an exciting new chapter under Mo Idris’ leadership.
